Clue's Rules & CoC
Modified from the “Mafia Gameplay Rules”
1. Don't edit or delete your posts. While this is a roleplay, it also functions similarly to the Mafia game itself. What you have your character says needs to stick, and it’s not like you can rewind a scene, close your character’s mouth and whisper something else for them to say in their ear. This rule stays.
2. Don't attempt to copy and paste or screenshot any messages from me in attempt to prove your role. You may show your invitation image, and attempt to convince others of the information within the background I give you, but none of these shenanigans. I’ll deny it to the end and accuse you of being a screen-shot editing mastermind.
3. Don't discuss the game outside of this sign-up topic, the Clue topic, or any special chatrooms you are assigned to. Aka no cheating.
4. Make your Accusation votes Bold and Red so that they look like this: OMG URANUS DID IT!
5. Make your Rescissions Bold and Green so that they look like this: On second thought, nvm. Uranus is totes cool in my book.
6. Be active. If you choose not to have your character speak in your posts that's fine but still vote and still use your detection skills if you have any. If you do not have time to play this game (and be able to dedicate at least 20 minutes a day to it) then don't sign up.
7. Once you have been KO’d you’re dead. No more talking. Sorry. I hope you kept up a steady conversation flow with the group or at least your investigation partner. … also I hope your investigation partner wasn’t the killer. OH WELL WE’LL SEE~
8. You can claim to be whatever role you want but you must back up your claim with proof if you want people to believe you. Especially if someone else claims to be the same thing. Wait for good times to reveal yourself and don't jump the gun.
9. THIS IS NOT A ROLEPLAY. The characters and events are only to add flavor and confusion to new players. Do not attempt to roleplay. AHA. 9. THIS IS A ROLEPLAY. The characters are there to add flavor, the events attempt to point you towards the killer. ATTEMPT TO ROLEPLAY. You don’t need to have 100+ word posts, you don’t need to create full sentences, you can just *runs into the room and sees the dead body* OMFG THEY KILLED CHIBI MOON, THOSE FISHTERDS! *faints*, but remember to try to stay somewhat in character. I’ve kept personalities tight to what we know of our senshi to help!
10. During the lights-on times you can discuss ideas and suspicious activities with the whole group and point fingers at who you think the “murderer” is, and that “murderer” can be tied up for the next lights-off phase, or knocked out for the rest of the game. When you split up into partners to search, however, you can only speak to your partner(s). Lights-off phases will come randomly, and that’s where some people will discover clues and others will be KO’d. We’ll get the hang of it together.
11. During the lights-off phase the “murderer” will have an opportunity to K.O. a party guess, the opportunity decided on a random roll. Also, random party guests might stumble across a clue, which they can choose to share with the group or hoard to themselves.
During the lights-off phase, you can choose to write a passage in your character's diary about the recent events going on. You can write clues you find in there if you choose.
12. A player’s role will be revealed through clues after they’ve been K.O.’d ((because it’s not like after someone gets knocked out they drop a character sheet full of information. … their diary would be found by someone else or something. SO EVEN AFTER YOU KNOCK SOMEONE OUT YOU WON’T IMMEDIATLEY KNOW YOU’RE SAFE UNTIL SOMEONE FINDS THEIR DIARY.))
13. Some people may be liars, some people may be mean, some people may be stupid and some people may be whiners. Regardless, this is a game where how you act is a tactic. Think carefully before you post and don't take offense to anything that is said here. This is a game.
14. There can and will be times where no accusations are made and no majority is reached, so no one will be tied and KO’d.
15. If there is not a majority reached, it can be decided that the person with the most votes be tied up for the night, but not knocked out.
16. If there is ever equal or more “murderers” to party guests, the “murderers” will win.
17. I hate when people cheat. Cheating is defined however I want to define it. If I believe you have cheated, I will SHARPIE THE WORD 'CHEATER' ON YOUR FOREHEAD AND KICK YOU OUT OF THE MURDER HOUSE.
Just like in the game of Clue, there will be different rooms to investigate, as well as different ‘weapons’ used to KO a person, but rather than trying to find all of these out, just like in the Movie “Clue”, you’re simply trying to figure out who’s behind all of this and determine whether they have any accomplices you need to watch out for.
(Rules were borrowed from Kyra's sign up sheet. Rules modified by Natasha.)
Feel free to ask any questions!
Please post that you have Read & Understood the rules and code of conduct before playing or hosting.

5. Make your Rescissions Bold and Green so that they look like this: On second thought, nvm. Uranus is totes cool in my book.
- In Character, this might look like this:
- The more the others spoke, the sillier Mars's earlier thoughts seemed to be. She had jumped to an irrational conclusion... else, the sane one that no one else had understood yet. Either way, she seemed outnumbered and that wasn't smart. "On second thought, nevermind. ^^' Uranus is in the clear in my book.... ((you can use your own language if you wish ^^'))

Note to Players wrote:Warning: Clue might not be as cutthroat as Mafia as there are personality buffers as far as characters are concerned, but it is still a game with a high potential for intensity, as it involves accusations (sometimes wild and unfounded), strong words, and even, at times, aggression towards other characters. This is an official note of caution that this game is for people with really thick skins that fully understand that what happens in game stays in game and anything that occurs in that game thread is not a reflection of the player or of the forum, just the nature of the game itself: in other words, there is a giant "No personal offense meant" tag across everything mafia-related.
If for any reason you believe this game might not be the game for you, sit out and watch a few games before deciding to sign up.
As the rules suggest, Clue will be run a bit differently from Mafia games. In this game there will be one or two “murderers” (their actual title will be released with the plot), one doctor role, and everyone is an investigator, but in a different way than per usual. I’ll roll a random die every night and the party guest connected to that die will get a clue based on where they and their partner are sent via PM. They can choose to share the information or keep it to themselves, choose to write it in their diary, or even give out false clues, but every night at least one person will discover a clue to who the “murderer” is, or they are not, and why they’re going around KO’ing people.Consequences of Breaking Clue Conduct wrote:if any player starts acting out of line (even within the normal scope of reactions to the game) it is understood that the game will be locked for a short period of time, wherein the players involved can cool off and apologize, or decide it's too intense and back away from the game thus creating an auto-lynch situation. By signing up you agree to these terms and conditions, knowing that if further actions need be taken you will be banned from playing Mafia in the future.
- About Diaries:
- Diaries will be used in this game to keep track of what you learn and who you disclosed the information to. Diaries might be the only true in-character thing in the game; you can write a diary entry every night, or only when you learn a clue, or to write your suspicions; when you die your Diary might be the only way to pass on pertinent information. ... or leave everyone scratching their heads. The only people who must write in their diary are our "murderers"; they only need one entry, just something that heavily hints that they have changed. I'll send everyone their first diary entry to give you something to go off of, and what your character knows before the party!

- Kyra's DETAILED Rules:
- Updated Clue Rules/Gameplay wrote:
1. Think of Clue like Mafia.
a. You’ve got your Day Phases (lights on) and Night Phases (blackouts), and your standard roles.
i. Lights on phases are where people can vote to knock someone out.
ii. Blackouts are where people perform their special abilities.
1. Brainwashed people decide who they’re going to Knock Out, and how they will knock them out.
2. Protector/Doctor either chooses whom to protect, or auto protects their area, depending on the game.
3. Everyone Else moves to a room to search that room for “Clues”; in this, everyone acts like a detective.
a. Each blackout, a die is rolled to determine which person has the ability to find a really useful (story driving, brainwash pointing) clue.
b. Everyone else could find inconsequential clue, or an item to help them through the night.
i. Brainwashed people might also find items.
iii. Blackouts will come randomly, but the RL time that the next blackout will happen will be announced when the light phase starts.
b. Sometimes your character will find a clue, a special clue, or an item.
i. Clues typically either
1. point to where someone might have been before the first event
2. point to the person/entity behind the whole thing, which, with some imagination, can lead one to find the culprits.
ii. Special Clues are typically
1. A character’s Diary
2. The object a brainwashed person used to KO someone
3. Something on a KO’d person’s body that points to how they were knocked out
iii. Items either help the characters along, or are just there to be funny. Some special items are
1. Flashlights
a. Flashlights help your character find more clues by giving them claim to another side of the die.
2. Rope
a. If your character finds rope, a new day action becomes available: you can vote to tie up a suspect rather than straight knocking them out. They stay alive, but they cannot perform a night action. This could help root out mafia!
3. Pills and Antidoes
a. Sometimes you’ll find concoctions that help you along the way, like sleeping pills (so we don’t get so violent! Also allows you to unobtrusively knock someone out during the day. No voting, no decisions, just you knocking someone else out.) or antidotes (that can erase poison if used before the person is Knocked Out).
iv. Sometimes items can be found during a day phase.
1. The character has to be specifically looking for that item and must be in the correct room.
c. Diaries are important clues to who’s who in a game.
i. I always write the first entry to fill the player in on what’s going on, who they are, what their motive is, etc.Sometimes I hide clues and hints in diaries as to who you can tentatively trust.
ii. Players fill in subsequent diary entries based on what they do in the game.
1. But not only what they do, also what they think. You can throw many things into a diary, including:
a. Clues you’ve discovered
b. Items you’ve found
c. Suspicions of different people
2. Diaries don’t have to be narrative – they could be list form, too; whatever you feel comfortable with.
3. You must send me your updated diary at the end of every blackout phase.
a. Keeps the game running if someone finds your diary and I have to show it to them.
iii. Everything in the diary is law. You cannot tell a lie in your diary. Throw suspicions in there all you’d like, but you cannot outright lie.
1. Example: if you’re a regular person, you cannot write as though you’re the protector.
2. HOWEVER, you can hint heavily that you are. Same goes for brainwashed people; somewhere in there (typically first post) it hints that a person is evil; they can write the rest of the diary truly sinister, or spin it so it cannot be certain whether they are or not.
iv. Hiding your diary:
1. When the game begins you choose where your diary is hidden.
2. You can move your diary during the game, but only when your character is either in the room where the diary is hidden, or they are in the room where they want it to be hidden.
v. Finding a diary
1. Diaries are Special Clues.
a. To find, a character has to be in the room where the diary is hidden and the die has to roll their number that night.
2. If a character is Knocked Out or Tied Up…
a. Their diary turns from Special Clue to regular item, and will be found by anyone searching that person’s room.
b. The diary can be found during the day if searched for in the correct room.
3. If your diary is found, you’ll get a PM telling you that its pages have been messed with.
a. You can then have fun RPing your character being pissed about someone getting into their diary (if you want).
2. Gameplay
a. I will tell you in your role PM where you were when the action happens, but typically the game starts with everyone in one room.
i. There will be clues left in your starting room that you were there, but you can totally claim to be somewhere else if it suits you. Just know that you’ll be lying.
b. Rule One: My Word Is Law.
i. If I say everyone is now a chicken, get to bock-bock’n.
ii. Only I can give out items and clues. If you want to have your character find something and be able to use it, look for it specifically in the room you hope it’s in and pray I hid that item there.
iii. Phases change at my whim.
1. Did the vote go through? Oh, that’s everyone? Don’t go searching yet. Nothing officially happened.
2. I will post (and possibly do a quick powerplay) to officially knock someone out.
c. Rule Two: When changing locations, bold where you’re going.
i. This helps me out oodles and oodles.
ii. I’ll occasionally post an updated list of where everyone is to keep things straight.
iii. During Blackouts, depending on your room you will be given a quick topic forum to roleplay in during the night. There you can talk to your search partners and share information with them (without filling up their PM boxes). I can also give out group-wide clues to you there.
d. Rule Three: When voting to tie up or knock out a player during light phases, bold and red your vote. If you change your mind, bold and green your vote.
i. Once you’re KO you’re KO: no final posts. I hope you kept your diary and your partners up to date with your suspicions.
e. Rule Four: Item Searching
i. As discussed above, during Blackouts you choose where your character will search (typically as one of a pair of characters).
1. Every blackout phase will have every character find a clue of varying importance.
a. A die will be rolled. If it comes up on your character’s number, your character will find a major clue in the room that they are in, if a major clue is to be found there.
2. If someone is knocked out or tied up, any searcher can find their diary if they are searching the room where that character’s diary is hidden.
f. Rule Five: Night-time knock-outs are not publically announced by me.
i. If a character is knocked out during the night, I will quickly RP the method and nature of their Knock Out in their quick topic board, so they and anyone else searching that room with them will know the character is knocked out.
ii. It is up to the player’s search partners to RP finding or announcing to the group that their party member was incapacitated.
g. Rule Six: As being unconscious is kinda important in this game, no characters can fall asleep by themselves.
h. Rule Seven: Oh yeah, don’t use any of my PMs to make a claim.
i. To use your diary to make a claim, you must
1. Leave the room you are in to go to the room where your diary is hidden and search for it.
2. Wait for someone else to post IC about you having left “where did so and so go?”
3. Return to the room. You can show your diary then.
ii. Showing diaries can only happen after the third blackout phase.
1. …otherwise where is the fun in the game? Unless our brainwashed people are really good at writing innocently.
i. Rule Eight: About general posting:
i. All OOC (out of character) comments are to be put in a spoiler labeled “ooc”
1.
Code:- OOC:
- blahblah I’m super awesome blah
2. This keeps the boards neat and easy to keep up with the story.
ii. Don’t edit or delete your posts
1. If you misspoke, or misspelled or whatever, write it in an OOC post requesting that I edit it. I’ll do it for you if it bothers you to have it incorrect.
iii. Be active. If you don’t post for a 36 hour timespan, you’re dead. And possibly replaced by someone else who wants to play. You’ll miss a lot in 36 hours. If you don’t think you can check in a lot, don’t play.
j. Rule Nine: See rule One.
