Learning to Play! Empty Learning to Play!

Post by natashasurgirl Sun Aug 11, 2013 3:16 am

Hi everyone! Natasha here!

So, this is a place where people who are new can ask more experienced players about how to play mafia, ask what roles are, etc. Feel free to ask whatever questions you may have. We all don't mind answering, and will be starting a mentor/buddy program once we have established players on the forum.

In the meantime, here is a free for all place!

Question, what is a weak doctor exactly?

A Weak Doctor dies if they protect a Mafia member. (They might die if they protect a Serial Killer as well, but I'm not sure.)

Hey, Yami!

Another example for the difference between (weak) Doctor and (strong) Doctor is Lovely Lexi's Disney Mafia game. We had a (strong) Doctor in that one and they lived when they did protect mafia. Only way they did was either through lynching or mafia went after the Doctor.

Is there a plain doctor role? I don't think I've ever heard of one. In all the versions I've played there have only been (weak) and (strong) Doctor.

Anyone else care to answer?

Oh, well it's just on the roles list doctor is just listed as doctor. It doesn't mention strong or weak. Also in most games on GC the doctor was just called doctor. I can now I see why I got all confused. XD

Ah, yes. Well it's a doctor role, but it's up to the game host what type of doctor it is. And since we'd know which type of doctor we have at the beginning of the game, we just refer to the role as doctor.

This is a question related more to the forum's structure than the game itself, but this seemed like the most appropriate place to post.

Is there a place in our profile where we can see the current number of points we have from winning games, etc? Or, after the first game is completed, will there be a frequently-updated thread that lists all the forum members and the number of points they have?

I was never able to figure out how many points I had on Galaxy Cauldron, or where to find that information. XD

I'm not sure what Thunder has in mind for where we'll be keeping track of the points, but wherever that will be, we will have a Global Announcement and links to it in multiple threads so it's clear for where you are point wise.

But, yes, the points won't be up until after the first game.

That is a good point tho yami. I will edit the role list to reflect the two different types of doctors.

@zodia: as for points, yes im currently working on a system to display each members points. Ill unveil it after the first game has ended.

Can Beginner games have any extra role (aside cop/doc/mafia), or are they limited?

Anyone knows if the Governor's power is to just save someone from lynching once, or if they get to choose who to lynch then on their own too?

(Hope I'm asking at the right place ^^; )

Beginner games is Cop, Weak Doc, #Mafia per participants, and one additional role of the host's choice.

With my FMA Mafia we have the Lover role also being part of the game.

this can be for a Thief role but should be used in bigger groups!!

Now, if the thief picks the same person as the Cop, the investigation files of that person will be revealed to the group..

the thief is a 3rd party role...

Ok, question - how does the doctor decide who to protect? Should it always be the cop? And what if there's a person that's been confirmed villager, should they be a priority to protect? I know there are different strategies and all that, but just looking for some general ideas.

At the beginning of the game, the doc doesn't know who is who except for themselves. So they choose at random usually (if you don't know the players). Once cop is out, always protect cop no matter what until Mafia find you and kill you instead. Cop is super important to investigate who is innocent and who is guilty.

Doc can sometimes find out who is mafia and help townies IF doc protected mafia and mafia killed someone else that night.

I don't get the last part, about the doctor protecting mafia - how does that help the townies?

It doesn't so much in the sense, if it's (weak) doc, doc dies immediately if they protect mafia. Because they did that that helps townies in the sense they can confirm a guilty player for being mafia. Other than that losing doc without knowing who cop is hurts townies since cop can't be protected at night if cop decides to out themselves.

Ah I see. And doctor should never reveal themselves?

And if cop is killed, doctor should probs protect confirmed townies generally?

Exactly. Doc should stay quiet and wait for Cop it out themselves to continue protecting cop. Until then it's a wild guess until you have confirmed townies.

Strong doc doesn't die if they protect mafia. But with beginner games we always have weak doc to get a better idea of playing the game. =D Also most standard games play with weak doctor if it's just doc, cop, mafia, and townies.
