Mafia Roles

Here is a list of all the possible Roles available to hosts to choose from for the structure of their games.

Also, for new players to read for understanding the many many different roles in the established Mafia realm. Enjoy!



Village Aligned Roles.

Village Aligned Roles:
Agent
Can send anonymous messages to any role not aligned with village.

Baker
Gives two pieces of bread each night.
If all bakers die, the town goes into famine.
During a famine, everyone will die in 1 days.
People will live a half a day longer for each piece of bread they have.

Blacksmith
Gives a vest to one person each night.
That person will be able to survive one shot per vest.

Bleeder
Will not instantly die if shot.
After a day, the Bleeder will die.
Dying Bleeders vote does not count.
If shot while dying, nothing happens.

Bodyguard
Can choose to guard one person at night.
If somebody tries to kill that person...
50% chance the bodyguard will kill the attacker.
50% chance the bodyguard will die in place of the target

Bomb
Anyone who kills him/her will be blown up.
Will not explode if lynched.

Bulletproof
Can survive one night kill
Can survive the Hunter's shot
This does not apply to lynching

Caroler
Caroler chooses one player per night to sing a carol to.
Carol will consist of three players, at least one of which is mafia.
If player sung to is visiting that night, they don't hear the carol.
If player is silenced and/or fiddled, they won't hear the carol.
Caroler cannot sing to the same player twice in a row.
Carol can have any player in it, including Caroler and player sung to.
All Carolers share a night meeting.

Celebrity
Current role is always public.
Immune to Tailor.

Chef
Chooses two people during the day.
Those two people are invited to a banquet for dinner and conversation.
The two people know each other's roles but not each other's identities.

Civilian
Mafia wins automatically if more than half of all Civilians are dead:
Mafia wins if...
... a lone Civilian dies
... If both are dead out of 2 total Civilians
... If 2 are dead out of 3 total Civilians
... If 3 are dead out of 4 total Civilians
... If 3 are dead out of 5 total Civilians
...etc

Confused Cop
Visits one person every night.
Receives a report with that person's alignment.
Due to faulty policework, instead of getting an accurate report, randomly receives a guilty or innocent report.
Upon death, will appear to be normal cop

Cop
Investigates one person every night

Deputy
Carries one gun that can be shot during the day.
Gun cannot be stolen.
Identity will not be revealed when the gun is shot.
Sided with the village.

Detective
Investigates one person at night.
Report shows the role of the investigated.

Doctor (aka, Strong Doctor)
Protects one person from being killed every night.

Drunk
Visits one person every night.
Blocks the role of the person visited if they are a role which visits.

Weak Doctor
Protects one person from being killed every night.
However, if they accidentally protect a mafia alligned person, they die.

Dreamer
Will have a dream each night.
The dream can tell a tale of 3 people, at least one of whom is mafia.
Alternatively, the dream can tell a tale of one person, who will be innocent.
Dreamer does not dream if visited at night.

Enchantress
Visits one person once per game.
Gives that player a crystal ball.
Whoever has a crystal ball can choose a person each night.
When the holder of the crystal ball dies, the role of the last person chosen will be revealed to all.

Gallis
Appears as a villager to self
Only needs one vote to be lynched
Won't be lynched with a majority vote
Other properties are the same as a villager

Ghoul
Chooses a player at night.
If Ghoul is targeted by a killing role, the chosen person will be killed instead.
Ability only works once.

Governor
The governor can override a lynch once during a game.

Granny
Also known as the paranoid gun owner!
Will shoot anyone who visits her during the night.
Cannot die during the night.
Can be converted, but will kill the converter (good for Yakuza, bad for Cultist).
When tracked, the report will show that the granny visited him/herself.
When tracked, anyone visiting the granny will also show as visiting him/herself

Gunsmith
Can give one gun at night.
People who receive guns can shoot during the day.
People who shoot the guns have a 50% chance of staying anonymous.
People instantly die from the gunshot.

Hunter
Shoots one person if ever lynched

Insane Cop
Investigates one person every night.
Mafia will appear innocent.
Villagers will appear guilty.
Upon death, will appear to be normal cop

Invisible Man
Can choose to follow a person during the day.
If this person has meeting during the night, the invisible man hears conversation without name of people who are talking.

Jailer
If no lynching, chooses one target at the end of the day.
The target will be jailed at night.
The target will be immune to night actions (except driving).
The target cannot do any action.
The jailer and the target can converse at night.
The target does not know who the jailer is.
The jailer can choose to kill the jailed person

Journalist
Can pick a person every night.
Any system messages that person may have got are given to the Journalist as well.

Judge
Vote counts twice during the day.

Keymaker
Makes a Key each night and gives it to a player.
That player can then lock himself in his house during any night of the game.
Locked player is roleblocked for that night and can not be visited that night.
A player with a key can not be jailed.
Keymaker can make a key for himself.
Ninjas and Thieves can visit locked players normally.

Lazy Cop
Investigates one person per day.
Report of the person's alignment will show up at the beginning of the next night, a day late.
Can't be roleblocked by a hooker or a drunk.
Appears as a normal cop to itself and on death.

Leader
If ever killed, votes will be anonymous for a day.

Lightkeeper
If killed, town will be engulfed in darkness during next day.
Players cannot see who is talking.
Players cannot see who voted whom.

Loudmouth
Appears as villager to self
When visited during the night, will reveal all visitors.
When whispered, the whisper always leaks.

Mason
Can recruit each night.
If recruiting villager, villager becomes mason.
If recruiting mafia or killer, all masons die.
Unless recruited that same night by a Cultist or a Yakuza
Or hooked/drunked
Silencer doesn't count as mafia in this rule.
If recruiting cultist, cultist dies.

Miller
When investigated by a sane cop, appears to be sided with the mafia.
When investigated by an insane cop, appears to be sided with the village.
When lynched, appears to be mafia.
When killed, appears to be miller.

Mimic
Chooses one person at night.
Visits that person (can be Driven)
Checks alignment, then performs an action:
If the Mimic chose a town:
...Visits that person and self (cannot be Driven).
...Steals their role and turns them into a Villager.
If the Mimic chose a mafia:
...Visits self (cannot be Driven).
...Turns self into a Villager.
If the Mimic chose a 3rd party role:
...Visits self (cannot be Driven).
...Turns self into an Amnesiac.
For alignment check, Godfather counts as town and Miller counts as mafia.

Mortician
Can uncover the role of a dead player every night.

Naive Cop
Investigates one person every night.
Everyone will always appear innocent.
Upon death, will appear to be normal cop.
Appears as normal cop to self.

Nurse
Visits one person every night.
That person will be protected from dying that night.
Any role that visits will be role blocked.

Oracle
Chooses one person each night
When the oracle dies, the chosen person's role will be revealed to all

Paranoid Cop
Investigates one person every night.
Everyone will always appear guilty.
Upon death, will appear to be normal cop

Pathologist
Chooses a dead player every night.
Any system messages that player received are given to Pathologist the next day.

Penguin
At night, the penguin is able to "waddle" over to someone and tell them a secret about another player.
Multiple forms of secrets.
For example, (1)"During the night a fluffy penguin visits you and tells you that Player 1 has visited Player 2." ; (2)"During the night a fluffy penguin visits you and tells you that Player 1 is carrying a suit." ; (3) During the night a fluffy penguin visits you and tells you that Player 1 has taken no action over the course of the night."
The secrets are randomized.
If drunked/hooked/nursed, the Penguin visit does not go through and instead the Penguin will receive a message saying "You tried to visit Player 1, but a ferocious seal was blocking you."
If two Penguins are in the game and one visits the other, they will mate and all player actions will be blocked during the night (can only happen once per game).

Priest
Learns what roles visited him during the night.
Werewolves who visit are exorcised and die.
If were to be killed has 50% chance of...
... Changes mafias to traitors
... Changes village sided killers to villagers.
... Changes third party to survivors.

Santa
Visits one player every night.
Will learn if they are "naughty" or "nice".
Will not receive a report if visited.
Visits a second player every night.
That person will receive an item of Santa's choice.

Samurai
Will kill anyone who tries to convert him at night.
Can only kill 2 people.
Cannot be converted.

Sheriff
Carries one gun that can be shot during the day.
Gun cannot be stolen.
Identity will be revealed when the gun is shot.

Shrink
Chooses one person at night.
That person cannot be converted that night.
Can choose to target self
Converts killer to villager.

Sleepwalker
Randomly visits one person every night.
Visit is mandatory and does nothing.
Appears as villager to self.

Snoop
Can choose to search a person's house at night.
Discovers what items they have at the start of day phase.
Can see bulletproof's vest and sheriff's, deputy's and sniper's guns.

Surgeon
Chooses one person every night.
That person is protected from dying and conversions that night.
One additional person who visits the chosen person that night will die.

Suspect
Appears as blue to self.
Appears as mafia to cops.
Appears as self on death.

Telepath
Can send anonymous messages to people (like agent/spy but sends them to the person not the role)

Templar
Shares a night meeting with all other Templars.

Town Drunk
Makes one person drunk every night.
Hookers will fail to kiss.
Vigilantes will fail to kill.
Doctors will fail to protect.
Bodyguards will fail to guard.
Fool will fail to visit.
Cop will fail to investigate (if working alone).
Masons will fail to recruit (if working alone).
Cults will fail to recruit (if working alone).
Watchers will fail to watch (if working alone).
Trackers will fail to track (if working alone).
Mafias will fail to kill (if working alone).
Killers will not kill.
Framers will not frame.
Interceptors will not intercept.
Witch will not curse.
Yakuza will not convert.
Janitor will not clean up bodies.
Disguiser will not disguise.
Will not block fellow town drunks

Tracker
Chooses one person to follow every night.
Will know who that person visited that night

Trapper
Visits one person each night, kills one of whoever visits that person at night.
If a killing role visits alongside others, the killing role always dies first in order of mafia, 3rd party, town-sided death (vigil, mason, etc.)

Treestump
Can choose to become a tree at night.
Once a tree, cannot be killed or converted.
Once a tree, they cannot vote.

Turncoat
If mafia tries to kill him/her, he/she will turn into a traitor.
Sided with the village.

Vigilante
A dirty cop(has no investigative abilities) who kills one person every night

Villager
Wins if all Mafias are dead

Virgin
If lynched, no one in the town can be night-killed.
Becomes a villager if hooked.

Watcher
Votes one person to watch every night.
Will know who visited that person that night.


Mafia Aligned Roles.

Mafia Aligned Roles:
Actress
During the night, the actress can pick a role.
If the actress happens to die she'll appear with the last chosen role.

Associate
Gives a working gun to a non-mafia member once per night.
The gun will not kill a mafia member. (e.g. will show up as if it hit a bulletproof vest)
The gun can kill other villagers.
The gun has a 50% chance of revealing, 50% chance of being anonymous.

Consigliere
Appears to everyone as a villager.
Does not attend mafia meetings.
Can convert self to mafia once per game.

Disguiser
Picks one person each night.
If the picked person dies during that night, the disguiser will steal that person's identity.
The disguiser can only disguise once per game.

Driver
Can choose two people at night.
Any actions done on those two people at night will be swapped.
Driver cannot drive another power role to a target not in their list.
You cannot swap someone with no one

Enforcer
Chooses one person at night.
Prevents a person from converting to another role when chosen.
Killer is converted to traitor.

Fabricator
Visits one person every night.
That person will receive an item of Fabricator's choice.
Fake vest will not protect.
Fake bread will not preserve the player.
Fake gun will kill the shooter.
Fake crystal balls will not reveal their targets.
All fake items appear real to snoop.

Fiddler
Chooses one person every night.
That person is no longer able to hear the town discussion.

Forger
Visits one person every night.
He/she will learn of that person's written Will.
50% chance of successfully substituting that person's Will with a forged copy.
Sided with the mafia.

Framer
Frames one person every night.
For that night, the target will appear guilty to cops.

Godfather
Appears innocent to cops.

Gramps
Learns a role of any player who visits him.
Can not be killed at night or shot during day.

Hitman
Chooses a player each night and kills that player.
Doesn't attend mafia meetings.

Hooker
Kisses one person every night.
Vigilantes will fail to kill.
Doctors will fail to protect.
Bodyguards will fail to guard.
Fool will fail to visit.
Cop will fail to investigate (if working alone).
Masons will fail to recruit (if working alone).
Cults will fail to recruit (if working alone).
Trackers will fail to track (if working alone).
Killers will not kill.
Bakers will not bake.

Illusionist
Starts off with one gun. (Gun is immune to Sab)
Can choose someone at night.
When the gun is fired, it reveals to have been shot by whoever the player chose.
Can do this once a game.
Attends mafia meetings

Informant
Picks a person each night
Any system messages that person may have got are given to Informant as well.

Interceptor
Follows one person each night.
Kills only one of whoever visits the same person.
Anyone else who visits the same person finds out the identity of the interceptor

Interrogator
Does not attend meetings but can pick mafia (like silencer)
If town NLs, Interrogator can pick a player and capture him for the night.
Target cannot perform his night action and is immune to any other actions too.
Interrogator can talk to his target at night while remaining anonymous and appearing like a jailer.
Can kill his prisoners

Janitor
Can choose one person at night.
If that person dies, only the janitor will know his/her role.
Can only clean up one body per game.

Lawyer
Can choose one mafia every night.
That mafia will appear innocent if investigated.

Lookout
Votes one person to watch every night.
Will know who visited that person that night.

Mafia
Kills a villager every night.
Wins if they outnumber villagers during the day

Ninja
Does not get detected by watchers and trackers.

Paparazzi
Chooses one person after being lynch,the chosen person's role will be revealed to all.

Paralyzer
Can choose to paralyze the town once a game.
Everyone's votes will be locked.

Poisoner
Visits one person at night .
That person becomes poisoned.
The poisoned person dies after the next night.
The doctor can cure the poisoned player.

Quack
Does not participate in mafia meetings.
Can save somebody during the night.

Saboteur
Picks a person per night.
If that person has a gun, the gun is rigged.
A rigged gun will explode and kill the owner instead.

Scout
Chooses one person to follow every night.
Will know the people that person visited.

Silencer
Chooses one person every night.
The targeted cannot talk during day

Sniper
Has a gun, never revealed after taking the shot.
Does not attend mafia meetings.

Spy
Can send anonymous messages to any role

Stalker
Chooses one person at night.
Will know that person's role in the morning.

Strongman
Once per game, can use his strength.
Strength guarantees the mafia's kill is successful.
Works through roleblocking and protection.

Tailor
The tailor gives a suit to one person each night.
If that player dies, the player's role will be revealed as whatever the suit is.

Terrorist
Can choose a player during day.
The chosen player and Terrorist both blow up and die.

Thief
Chooses one person each
Steals an item from that player.

Traitor
Does not participate in mafia meetings.
Appears as a villager to investigative roles.
Only wins if mafia wins.

Ventriloquist
Can disguise voice as someone in the meeting to somebody else.

Voodoo Lady
Chooses one person each night.
Chooses one word each night.
The next day, if that person says the word, he/she will die.

Whisperer
Can send anonymous messages to players.

Witch
Places a curse on a person each night.
That person will die...
... if visited by a person not sided with the mafia that night.

Yakuza
Can sacrifice self to convert somebody to mafia.
Yakuza's converts are stronger than cultist's or mason's.


Third Party Roles.

Third Party Roles:
Admirer
All Admirers in the setup are evenly distributed to any Killers in the setup.
Knows who their Killer is, but Killers don't know who their Admirers are.
When a Killer dies, one of his Admirers (chosen at random) becomes a copycat Killer.
When that copycat dies, another Admirer of the original Killer becomes a Killer.
Appears as Villager when investigated.
The Killer and his respective Admirers win when they outnumber the village.

Angel
Will become the guardian angel for one person in the game.
Can choose to save the person but will sacrificing him/herself if that person were to be targeted for a kill once a game at night or day.
Wins if person does not die.

Alien
Chooses one human at night
The chosen human is probed
Wins if all living humans are probed

Amnesiac
Can choose one person in the graveyard at night.
Becomes that person's role in the game.

Anarchist
Visits one person every night.
That person receives a bomb.
Bomb will explode at a random time during the day, killing the holder.
Anarchist holding the bomb will not die, but will be revealed.
Wins if alive among final two, or if able to kill three people.

Autocrat
Wins if alive when village wins.
Village does not win if Autocrat is alive.

Clockmaker
Clock starts at 9.
Chooses one person to kill each night.
If victim is villager, clock goes up 2 hours.
If victim is mafia, clock goes down an hour.
If victim is third party, clock goes up 3 hours.
Gets an extra life if clock goes to 11 o clock.
Dies immediately if clock lands on 6.
Wins if 12 o clock, or if one of last 2 alive.

Creepy Girl
Has a doll she can give to someone else.
The doll is passed along each night by whoever has it. It can be stolen.
Creepy girl wins if she is alive and the person holding the original doll she passed along dies, by any means.

Cthulhu
Anyone who visits the Cthulhu goes mad and speaks only gibberish during the day.
Madness can be cured by a shrink visit or being recruited to a cult.
Cthulhu dies if visited by masons.
Wins only if the cults win.

Cultist
Can choose someone at night to recruit into the cult.
Any cult member visited by mason at night will die.
If the cult leader is killed, all cult members will die.
Wins if cultists outnumber everyone during the day.

Fool
Secretly wants to get lynched.
Can visit one person at night.

Serial Killer
Kills once every night.
Wins if last one standing

Lover
Visits one person at night once per game.
The target will fall madly in love with her.
Both will die if the other dies of any circumstance.
Wins if both are alive at the end of the game.

Lyncher
One person in the town irritates him.
Wins if that person is lynched.
Wins if town wins, while receiving less points.

Mastermind
If mastermind is in the game, mafia meetings are anonymous.
Mastermind wins if mafia wins and is still alive.
Mafia does not win if mastermind is alive.

Monk
Votes do not count during the day.
Can save one person each night.
Saved person is also unlynchable the next day.
Wins if he saves 2 people.
Wins if no one dies for 2 day and nights.

Old Maid
Can choose one player to switch roles with each night.
Nothing can prevent the role switch.
Old Maid cannot win.

Politician
Vote counts twice during the day.
Every 2 days, randomly becomes village or mafia.
Each change is independent, so politicians have an equal chance of remaining sided with their current alignment and of changing sides

Prophet
Picks an upcoming time during the night.
If the game ends at that time, prophet wins.

Siren
Selects one person at night
If the selected person visits the Siren that night, the person dies
Wins if successfully kills two people

Survivor
Wins if living at the end of the game.
Can hide behind one person each night, but only if that person is at home.
Survivors who hide behind someone who is targetted to be killed will be in danger as well.

Traitor
Does not participate in mafia meetings.
Appears as a villager to investigative roles.
Only wins if mafia wins.

Warlock
Each night chooses one person.
If that person is lynched the next day, the warlock has predicted correctly.
The warlock wins if he/she predicts correctly two times.

Werewolf
Each night, attempts to match players with roles.
If matches correctly at night, werewolf devours that player and becomes invulnerable to day kills and lynches for one day.
If role is guessed wrong, werewolf will be revealed to the town.
Wins if Werewolves outnumber all parties.

Zombie
Chooses one person to infect each night.
That person gets an infection that converts them to a zombie exactly one day later.
Doctors can cure infections and kill zombies by visiting them.
Immune to drunks, hookers, conversions, can be killed.
Survivors will be infected but will not become zombies.
Wins if everyone is either infected or zombified.
Sided with the zombies.

Updated with LOTS of new roles from Epic Mafia. (I forgot quite a few of them the first time around.)
