Extra Life Empty Extra Life

Post by ZodiacRain Wed Oct 09, 2013 11:03 pm

This weekend is fall break at my school. A group of us are staying on-campus and participating in an event called Extra Life.

Extra Life is a fundraising event in which participants play games and video games for 24 hours straight. I ended up signing up rather last-minute, and I'm excited and nervous. I've only stayed up for 24 hours straight once in my life, so this will be an interesting experience.

Extra Life is usually held on November 2nd, though this Saturday worked better for our group. The fundraising element comes from fundraisers donating to support participants. (If you want to donate to the cause, I could send you the link to our group's page in a PM. Very Happy )

I created this thread because I thought it would be fun to "live blog"/post status updates here. I also wanted suggestions for games to play during the 24 hours.

What I've got planned so far:

  1. A replay of the freeware game Ib, using dice to determine which ending I'll get. (Basically, I'll roll a dice every time I'm given a multiple-response dialogue box.)
  2. Playthroughs of the many freeware games I've downloaded but haven't had the time to actually play.
  3. Some of the classic fanmade Knytt Story levels, along with the game "Thomas was Alone," which I never completed.
  4. The Sims 2. I'm working on a project for it at the moment and I'm rather excited. I'll probably edit the Sims 2 related posts to add in pictures the following day.

Are there any other games you'd recommend I play during this event?

Well before suggesting a game it would be helpful to know what system you have? console or just PC?

I'll have access to other consoles, though I don't know what games are available for them. I'll be using a PC most of the day though.

Woo, it's the big day!

8:40 AM

I'm starting out with a simple game made to advertise an Exit Tunes Vocaloid CD (because my computer's being rebellious and not letting me play the Sims 2. I'll try it again later.).

8:46 AM

57,200 points and level 8! That's higher then I've gotten before. Not bad.

8:53 AM

62,850 points and level 11. I saw a new game play feature I hadn't seen before, so this is the highest I've gotten in this game.

9:13 AM

I've decided to start playing the Sims 2. (It's working now!) I plan on posting new posts whenever I'm playing the Sims (because I plan on editing in images in later and the posts will get long) and simply editing old posts for other games, as to keep from updating too frequently.

9:53 AM

Spent some time building a school for one of my neighborhoods. I'm going to take a break from it for awhile to play a Legacy-style challenge in another neighborhood.

I've played a little bit of Someday (a Yume Nikki fangame) and an interesting RPG Maker variation of Snake, "Its Our Revolution."

1:59 PM.

I finished the school/shopping community lot for my Christmas/Grilled-Cheese-Sim* themed neighborhood. The town will only have 2 community lots, so I'm half-finished there.

I'm thinking about logging onto my Steam account now and seeing if there are any games I'm interested in playing. (I'll probably play/replay Portal or Portal 2).

*(Grilled Cheese is an aspiration in the Sims 2. Some Sims want to learn everything, some Sims want large families, some Sims want to eat tons and tons of grilled cheese...)

3:27 PM.

I played part of one of the best Knytt Story fanmade levels, "Shipwrecked," and the entirety of one of the most popular, "Don't Eat the Mushroom." I'm planning on going back to the Sims in a couple of minutes and building that second community lot.

5:49 PM.

I've been playing more of "Someday" and creating Sims in the Sims 2. (And editing their relationships and memories in SimPE while that one Cookie Clicker game runs; that counts as a game, right? XD) I'm now going to play more of my Sims 2-style Dynasty Challenge.

8:00 PM.

My Sim became engaged! I took a break from that game to play an online browser game, this odd but kind of addictive game called Papa's Cupcakeria. Almost halfway through...

Is it available on PC? I'll look it up!

I've played Munchkin and Gloom, and both are fun games! However, the organization I'm doing this with is a video game club (we're lucky enough to have both a board game and a video game club), so the games we're playing are board games. I saw an online game called Pandemic 2; I'll give it a shot.

I heard such good things about Skyrim that I bought it! Unfortunately... my computer can barely run it, and I'm terrible with the first person controls. (I keep running in circles... OTL) I'll give it a shot later tonight, but last time I tried it my computer ran it at such a slow pace that it took me an hour to get through character creation, and I mostly went with the default-generated options.

I played through quite a bit of "It's Our Revolution," though I got stuck and am now taking a break.

I tried out an online version of Pandemic... It's really addictive...

Edit- I couldn't play Pandemic through, though. I just felt too bad for the victims of my disease. XD I've been playing a little bit of this and that (Sims 2, Knytt Stories, Papa's Cupcakeria... a lot of that game...) I'm off to play Papa's Cupcakeria some more!

4:36 AM Edit:

I played through Ib, randomly rolling the dice whenever I was given a multiple-choice option. I wanted to see what ending random dice rolling would give me. It gave me... the very first ending I ever got in the game. (Major spoilers for the game in the spoiler!)
Spoiler:
Needless to say, it was kind of haunting, getting that ending again by pure luck alone...

I eventually stopped live-blogging, didn't I? Whoops!

After getting that ending in Ib, I was like "It's too early in the morning for 'feels'," to use Tumblr terminology. So I played more of that Papa's Cupcakeria (it's really addictive...) and then some Princess Maker 2 (which is almost as old as I am, but is also very addictive).

The only suggestion I ended up taking was Pandemic 2, which was pretty fun. I found a free Bandicoot clone online, but I'm not sure a fan-made clone would have had the same impact as the real games!

Later on today, I'll upload pictures from the Sims 2.

I've added an image of the schoolroom. I was going to add a second, but the image hosting program is acting up a little bit. I'll add more images soon!
