Sailor Moon Crystal

Since a lot of us met on a Sailor Moon-themed forum, I thought it would be fun to start a thread on the new Sailor Moon reboot. When the series comes out, we could discuss the episodes on this thread, but for now we can discuss our hopes/fears of the anime and any news that comes out.

I've heard rumors that the anime will be closer to the manga than the 1992 anime was, which excites me. I think it would be interesting if the new anime incorporated elements from the musicals and video games, as well. (I haven't watched any of the musicals/played any of the games, so that's part of my motivation.)

While I don't want the new anime to have 40+ episodes a season, like the 1992 series, I don't want it to have 13 episodes a season, like most of the recent anime I watch, either. Somewhere in-between would be nice- maybe something like 20 episodes per season.

I hope it's not too close to the manga. >.> The manga is my least favorite version of SM.

The manga was my favorite version, so I'm hoping it's the case. Agree to disagree I guess?

Though I agree that it shouldn't be an exact copy of the manga. For example, I like how the villains were given better personalities in the anime, and hope the new anime keeps up with the tradition. However, I would love to see SuperS/Stars remakes closer to the original manga version. Especially Stars; the manga plotline was one of my favorites, while the anime plotline was just okay.

I hated the manga stars arc. Least favorite manga arc.

I think the whole manga thing was a complete exaggeration of like, one comment? That got totally blown out of proportion.

I love the anime. I'm a bit nervous of the reboot tbh.

That's true, the "similar to the manga" concept only came from one comment. Osano also made a comment recently that the anime would not be a 'remake of the original,' which a lot of people have reported as meaning "a continuation of the original anime." I don't think that's what he meant, and I'd be disappointed if the new series was a sixth season of the original.

Oh defo, I never even knew about that recent comment. I don't knoooow I am just nervous about the whole thing. The art, the characterisation, the relationships.... Ugh.

As long as HaruMichi still has their awesome goodness, I'm good. Also a strong Outer Family relationship.

I changed the title from "Sailor Moon Reboot" to reflect that the anime's name has been released- Sailor Moon Crystal.

What do you think of this image Toei released? It looks like something drawn by Naoko Takeuchi, so I'm skeptical that the actual animation of the series will look like this preview image. I wouldn't mind if it did, though.
